A custom of the Lutheran Church, Confirmation is a public profession of the Faith made by a catechumen (a Greek word meaning someone who is under instruction) to affirm his/her Baptism and is welcomed to the Lord's Supper.

Confirmation involves instruction for youth (generally two years) in the Christian faith- what Lutherans teach, believe and confess and why as expressed in the Small Catechism, based solely on the Bible.
